Every time you associate the driving test with anxiety, panic etc… you form a knot, a bundle of anxious thoughts…
All these negative thoughts are all untangled in that same cluster as they share similar emotions and beliefs (fear, panic, anxiety etc). They now have formed an ‘Identity’.
Then you have another part of you, another small cluster of neurons, that is labelled:
‘I am fine, I know my stuff’… (or something in those terms).
But that positive cluster is not allowed to communicate with the one labelled ‘Test= Panic’
as they do not share the same identity.
Your logical brain tries to knock on the door of that exclusive club but it is not allowed in. it does not belong to that club.
Well, there is a way out, through the simple technique of R-E-M:
REM is an efficient way to break old ways of thinking and introduce new, more helpful beliefs. We are able to make new associations between things very rapidly as we open up communication between left and right hemispheres of the brain, between rational and emotional side of the brain.
